I'm doing our 4th of July post early because tomorrow we will be very busy packing for our trip to Colorado Springs. We are leaving Sunday morning and meeting my sister in Denver. The four of us will drive down to the Springs and stay with my parents in a vacation home until Friday. On Friday we are spending the night in Denver and hopefully seeing Jered's parents, who live in Laramie, WY.
Our exciting news this week was Will has been consistently using the potty at least once a day for the last 5 days. He loves to sit on it and will stay for however long we let him (it's very unusual for him to sit still that long). We aren't really doing "potty training" per se, as we think he's a little young for that and not ready to be consistently dry all day. However, each time he asks to go pee pee (about 2-3 times a day), we take him to his potty and sit with him until he goes. I didn't expect him to do this well already before he's even 2. We do have a wonderful potty training book that I've read through twice now called Pottywise (part of the Babywise series we've used since birth) and it stresses not pushing the child too early and waiting until they have: developmental readiness, bladder readiness, and volitional readiness. They also don't push one method of training, but instead describe three different methods: progressive training, casual-progressive, and relaxed potty training. Anyway, that's about all you probably want to hear about toddler potty stuff, but I just had to share how well Will is doing and proud we are!
After or during vacation, we will find out if Jered made chief (he's up for chief's board right now). They are only promoting 4 chiefs nationwide for FTS, so it's slim (but hopeful) chances. It's very good that Jered is even up for board, as the average years in rate/service for the other candidates is considerably higher than Jered's.
I've been busy building two new websites, one for our church's Young Family Ministry, and one for our chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The former is pretty much done, and the latter a work in progress. I love having new projects and have really enjoyed these, although it does make my back pain flare up. Hopefully a few days relaxing in Colorado will ease that!
