5 Months Old

On Monday we celebrated 5 months with our precious boy. Unfortunately, we had to celebrate by giving Will bubble gum flavored Amoxicillin for his ear infections! However, his congestion is clearing up, and you can tell that he is feeling much better. He got weighed/measured at the doctor Sunday and is 19 lbs 5 oz and 27.5 inches. Will has become very wiggly and can rotate his body almost 180 degrees--one minute his head is facing you and the next minute he's feet first! He twists himself into what seems to be the most awkward positions. He has also become adept at scooting backwards to reach something and has started lunging forward to grab things. He will also sit unsupported for a minute or two and can stand on his own weight if he holds onto something for balance. This last week Will figured out that if he hangs onto the moving animals on his baby gym, the machinery makes a loud clicking, clacking noise, so of course that's a favorite pastime! A couple of other favorite things to try to grab are the computer keyboard, mouse, remote controls and mommy's cell phone!
Will has been eating rice cereal in the evenings for a few weeks, and likes it thickened to the consistency of mashed potatoes now. We tried introducing cereal at breakfast and lunch too, but he has not been hungry or interested in extra food at those times. He has been doing great nursing 4-5 times a day and having cereal before bed. Here we have some pictures taken during our normal bedtime routine. After cereal, we sponge Will off with warm water, change him into pajamas, then Jered reads him a story from the Boy's Bible that Grandpa Hanschen got him. Then we pray together, kiss him good night, and he's asleep by 7 or 7:30. We have been doing this routine for a couple of months now and it has been a nice family time for us. We miss our family visits from the holidays, but we're glad to be back to our little routines at home. (As you can see, our furry children are also glad to have their brother back!)
