11 Weeks Old

We are happy to be posting Will's weekly update--that means that we didn't have to evacuate yet! The fires reached the firebreak within 5 miles of us, but were deflected north by the break and the water drops done by helicopters, including two from Jered's squadron. We are hoping the danger to our neighborhood is passed, but are praying for the areas to the north and south of us that are still in the way of the fire.

Will is getting more alert during the day. He loves playing with toys now and smiles and "laughs" at them. He loves his baby gym because the hanging toys sing, spin, and wobble back and forth. He also enjoys his crib piano, rattles, his singing sea turtle, and the cloth book Ian gave him. He has been improving in his napping after I finally tried the cry it out method again starting last Friday. During the first nap, he cried on and off for an hour. Since then, he only fusses for a few minutes, then goes to sleep. It's nice to be able to just put him down awake and know that he'll get himself to sleep. He's sleeping an average of 9 hours at night, usually 9:15-6:15, sometimes a little longer, then feeding and sleeping for 3 more hours. Then he takes three naps during the day. He is also growing like a weed--the jeans he is wearing are 9 months and his shirts are 6,6-9, or 9 months.

The most momentous thing Will did this week is sitting on his own. He did it several times yesterday, and we got a short video of it that we've posted here. Of course, he'll probably stop doing it next week, but it was really cool to see such a young baby sit on his own =)
